Over time, the gums can recede, giving the teeth a lengthened appearance. Gum disease, overbrushing, or teeth grinding can all cause gum recession.
Severe gum recession can expose the underlying bony structures to bacterial infection.
“I’ve been attending The Smile Gallery for several years and am very happy with their services. All the staff are friendly, and the hygienist and dentists have given me a lot of useful tips to help me look after my teeth & gums better.” Andy, East Grinstead
A gum graft is an excellent way of restoring gums that have receded.
Typically, new tissue is taken from the roof of your mouth and stitched into place. You will return to the practice after about a week to have your stitches removed.
Full recovery from a gum graft can take 1-2 weeks, but most discomfort should pass within a few days.
Avoid smoking, stick to soft foods, and avoid aggravating the treatment site while brushing or flossing to aid your recovery.
