Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is a safe and effective way of eliminating infection from the central pulp chamber of a tooth. Pulp infections can occur when severe decay or a traumatic injury compromises the surface of a tooth.

An infected tooth can be very uncomfortable for the patient. Left untreated, an infection may spread to the surrounding teeth, gums, or bone tissue.

Procedure

Before carrying out a root canal treatment, your dentist will apply a local anaesthetic to ensure you remain comfortable throughout. They will then use a small file to clear infected tissue from the root canal.

Once the infection is gone, the dentist will thoroughly clean and disinfect the canal before sealing it with a special filling material.

Sometimes, they may apply a temporary filling at this stage and delay sealing the tooth permanently to ensure the infection is completely clear.

Once the tooth is permanently sealed, your dentist will reconstruct it with a filling or a dental crown, restoring its look and functionality.
